Is a blade with King Gillette's picture worth anything?

Question

May 13, 2008

do you think a blade in rapping paper with King Gillette's photo on is of any value?

- USA

15943

Answer

The problem is that, although it probably is an old blade and not in production any more, millions of such blades were produced. If it is in good shape, there may be a collector interested in purchasing it. I don't think it is of extreme value. You can check in auction and trading websites such as eBay to see what someone would offer for it.

What schooling did Gillete have?

Question

October 1, 2007

Just wondering, do you possibly know anything about Gillette's schooling, such as where he went to elementary school, junior high, or high school? I'm guessing he never made it to college if he began working as a salesman at the age of 17, but I'm interested to know more about his education.

Zac - USA

14451

Answer

There isn't much information on Gillette's education. Since he started living in Chicago after he was 4, he gained his education there. When he was 16, the great Chicago fire destroyed many schools. He probably was in high school at the time but then quit to start working. His parents moved to New York, but Gillette stayed in Chicago to work as a salesman at age 17.

Much of his knowledge and ambition was picked up from observing his father trying to invent things and to run various businesses.

Has razor from WWI

Question

March 4, 2006

I have in my possession a silver tin approx 2inches by 2 inches with a Gillette razor that is in three parts. The razor is stamped England but the tin is stamped germany, the tin is lined with a red velvet type lining (which is now in a poor state)The razor tin was found in an old tin of bits and pieces that my father left when he died in 1971.His father was in the army and was killed in France in ww1 as i am tracing my family history I was hoping that this was a razor that belonged to my great grandfather.Do you have any record that soldiers were issued with one of Gillette's razors in the silver tin. I would be very pleased to hear from you and your comments, maybe you could put an age to this.
Sincerely

Teresa - England

Answer

I'm sorry, but I have no information on soldiers being issued Gillette razors during WWI, but it certainly seems possible. At the very least, you have an approximate date for the razor. It certainly seems like a nice keepsake.

Best wishes in the study of your family history.

Permission to re-publish article

Question

August 13, 2005

Hi,

I found your article on King C. Gillette very interesting and think that my customers would enjoy reading about the founder of the products they use every day. I was wondering if I can re-publish your article on my site, providing I site you as the source and provide a link to your web site. Can you tell me if this is acceptable? I don't want to violate your copyright, and am not really sure what the rules are in this area.

Thank you,
