Answer
if you have a good education and skills in your area, your background should not be a factor in getting a good job.
Education and tutoring of children is typically fairly low-paying. If you could use your to tutoring skills in the business world, you could become a high paid professional.
Define your areas of expertise, but also look into areas that are needed by companies. Check with various companies for their needs in training and development. This is not applying for a job, doing research on what is available in what direction you can move in. Also seek out education, training and development professional organizations, were you can't talk to other people and get ideas for a job.
You need a good direction to go in, research and knowledge about the field, and acquaintances who made be able to point you in the right direction. Once you have laid the groundwork, you can seek to advance your career.
Best wishes on moving upward.

I am sorry to hear that you are having problems getting a good job. It is a difficult process and requires much determination and persistence. But also, it requires planning and research.
Take stock to consider what skills you have to offer companies. There may be some talents that you have not even considered as valuable. Make a list of the things that you're able to do and the type of work that you can do. This gives you a start and a focus in seeking a job.
The best way to get a job is to start close to home. Look at companies and businesses nearby to see if there is any work that they do it would fit your skills. Sometimes companies have jobs where you can realize that you can do that type of work.
Talk to people and tell them that you are looking for a certain type of job. Tell them that if they hear of anything to let you know about it. All you are seeking his information and perhaps suggestions. People enjoy to give advice, and you might find out about some opportunities that way.
It is a difficult task, but if you go about it with a plan and as a campaign, you will succeed. I know you have the talent and ability to succeed, so best wishes in getting a job very soon.

Answer
You need to define your area of interest and skill. Usually, that concerns the major subjects studied in school. Any type of job experience that you have also shows your skills.
Before you even look for a job, you should write up a resume. See: http://www.bestsampleresume.com/ for sample resumes.
When applying for a job, you should send your resume with a cover letter:
http://www.school-for-champions.com/career/cover_letter_guidelines.htm
Pick a specific type of job you want, according to your interests and skills. But also look in the newspapers and online for which related jobs have the most openings.
When you find a job to apply to, customize your resume to match the job requirements.
It is a lot of work, but worth the preparation time. Best wishes in getting a good job.
No longer interested in a science career
Question
January 9, 2010
I'm pursuing B.Sc. in physical science from Delhi university. But over the years I have lost in interest in science subjects. Being always inclined to economics, geography and history, can you suggest me a career option which balances my interest area and my degree. Please do suggest the way to approach or any link useful.
I would be very grateful if you clear my dilemma.
Thanks in advance

Answer
One advantage of studying the sciences is that you learn a mental discipline of carefully examining the facts as a way to come to a solution. Scientific thought and methods are applied in economics, geography and history. Often students who go directly into such subjects lack the discipline mental methods.
Career options in history and geography primarily consist of teaching positions. However, taking a number of economics courses could be combined with your physical science degree for technical companies concerned about maintaining a good revenue flow. They would want someone who understands their technology, as well as economics.
I met a man who majored in chemistry, but once he started working in the field, he realized it was not suitable to him. He went back to school to take economics courses and is now an accountant. He is happy with his job and use it as he is chemistry as an outside interest.
The most important thing is to work in an area that you are interested. The more interest you have, the more your career will advance.
But these ideas help, and best wishes in your career choices.
Want to be a computer engineer but weak in math
Question
November 19, 2009
I want be computer engineer and i have mathematical problem, what to do?
Babatunde - Nigeria
18698
Answer
Some areas of engineering require a strong knowledge of mathematics. However, there are other technical jobs where you do not need such a background.
If you are weak in mathematics and the requirements for a degree in computer engineering require much math, then you might consider other areas of technical study. The other choice is to take easier math courses first to build up your skill in that subject.
The best job to have is one in which you are interested, have good skills and which pays well. Often you need to search around for the best combination.
Best wishes in your studies and your career.

Lost job due to affirmative action policy
Question
August 9, 2009
Hi, good morning. Many thanks for your message. I pray this morning to thanks the lord for everything. My problem are my unemployment. I was a firefighter. I lost my job because of our government's affirmative action policy. I used to love my work as a firefighter and I miss it. I am no racist. I am 38 years old. Somedays I cry because my wife must work. I pray to the lord for, how can I say it, for a urgent solution for this problems. Sorry for my broken English. I am speaking the local, Afrikaans, language. Thanks for your email. Best regards
John - South Africa

Answer
Although affirmative action is well-meaning, often it is poorly implemented, such that it hurts innocent workers.
Think of losing your job as an opportunity to move on to bigger and better things. Here are some ideas for you to help in getting a new and better job:
Continue to look for a job as a firefighter. Talk to your old firefighter friends and supervisor to ask if they know of any openings. Apply again for such a job, where ever you can.
Evaluate the skills you had gained as a firefighter. For example, you have had to be brave in dangerous situations, think quickly in emergencies, be physically capable of doing things, able to help save the lives of people and perhaps even give medical care to the injured. Plus, there are other skills that you have had to use on your job.
Consider how would those skills and traits be valuable in another job? Think of other types of jobs that would need such skills. Also, when you apply for a job, you can point out these skills and traits as something positive for the employer.
Talk to people. Tell others that you had been a firefighter but were now looking for a new job where you could use some of your skills. Do not dwell on the past or that you lost your job. No one wants to hear your troubles. Instead, hold your head up high and look to improving your position. When you tell people you are looking for a better or new position, they often will help by giving you some leads or ideas. Don't expect them to give you a job. Instead, seek information on where there is a need for someone like you.
It is a difficult path, but if you are positive and show determination that you will get a job soon, others will want to help you achieve your goal.
I hope these ideas will help you get work again soon. Remember that you have what it takes to do so.
How can I get praise from people?
Question
May 2, 2009
Hi,
If I am not able to talk with others how can i get praise from them.
Waiting for your suggestion.
Thanks,
kranthi - India
17686
Answer
You need to do the very best you can in the work that you do. The problem doing good work is a great reward. Getting praise for things done in your job is enjoyable, but it is a rare reward.
If you don't personally interfaced with people, you can write up summary of your achievements. Certainly your supervisor knows what you do and receives feedback from others about the work that you do. A good boss will praise his workers, but many of them don't.
How often do you praise other people? Getting praise must be a two-way street. If you praise and congratulate others on the good job that they did, sooner or later they will reciprocate and praise you too.
Ambition is to be an animator
Question
May 2, 2009
Hi,
I am kranthi working in e-learning company. but my ambition is to become a worlds toppest earning animator.
Now i cont have time to learn and practice animation i am always at office doing work. I can't even resume my job and start practicing about animation. then how can i become the successful animator.

Kranthi - India

Answer
You must set aside at least one hour each day to study and practice your animation, even if you must get up an hour early in the morning or stay up later at night.
If the e-learning company where you work has animations in their products, let them know about your interest in the field. Talk to the people who do animation and ask questions about it. Some companies encourage their workers to improve their skills.
Your goal should never to be the highest earning animator. It should be to be the best in what you love to do.
I hope these ideas help you. Best wishes in your career as an animator.
