Litmus paper versus cabbage paper

Question

May 27, 2008

Which is better to use :
Litmus Paper
or
Cabbage Paper
and why?

Thank you

- Canada

Answer

Litmus paper is calibrated to give a more accurate reading of the pH scale of a liquid. Since cabbage paper is home made, it is not as accurate. Also, cabbage paper can lose its potency after a while. For rough measurements to determine is a liquid is acid or base, you can use either.
