Setting Up ColdFusion

by Ron Kurtus (revised 9 August 2000)

Before developing ColdFusion applications on your computer, you must make some preparations to set thing up.

First of all, you need to have ColdFusion installed on your server or have your website on a host CF server. Then you need a good ColdFusion editor to be able to effectively write and check your CFML code.

Questions you may have include:

This lesson will answer those questions.

Have ColdFusion on server

You need CF on your server or be using a host with CF

Use CF editor

You need a good CF editor, such as CFEclipse or Adobe Dreamweaver (preferably a version previous to CC).

CFEclipse is a highly popular free ColdFusion editor. To use it, you must first install the Eclipse application, The downside of CFEclipse is that it only shows the code view and is not WYSIWYG.

Adobe Dreamweaver not only provides the code view and design view, but it also allows you to view a live version of your page. The downside is that the application is expensive to buy. If you already have DW CS6 or earlier, there is good support for CF. However, the new subscription version CC 2015 no longer includes CF code tips.

Verify everything works
