What to do if there is a hot girl in your class?
Question
October 29, 2009
What can you do if there is a hot girl in your class and you don`t know what to say?
Andrew - USA

Answer
It is difficult and not too effective to try to strike up a conversation in class. A better method is to spot her outside of class--like in the halls or outside.
Go up to her and say, "You're in my XXX class, aren't you?" Then say something like, "What do you think of... the teacher Mr. So-and-so, that last homework assignment..." or something else about the class.
In this way, she knows who you are. Unless you really hit is off good, don't try to talk too much. Instead, say, "I've got to get going. I'll see you in class." Then when you see her again, you can say, "Hi." In this way, you can get to know her without coming on too strong.
The casual approach usually works much better than trying to make a big hit.
Best wishes in getting to know her.

Makes mistakes when speaking to supervisors
Question
April 4, 2009
I am a soft skill trainer by profession. Most of the times I have observed that when I talk to my mangers or some higher designated colleague who has wonderful accent in English I tend to make mistake while speaking. What should I do?
Shalini - India

Answer
Talking to people considered superior or important can make you nervous or get you to try too hard. And such things can result in making the types of mistakes in speaking that you are trying not to do. This is the same problem people have in public speaking, where they are trying to impress the audience so much that they make mistakes or even forget their speech.
If you can, try to prepare what you plan to say to the manager or higher designated colleague. Do not try to impress the person with your knowledge, but instead think in terms of providing them with needed information.
Another thing to do is to try to concentrate on listening to what they have to say, and perhaps ask good questions. Managers often want to show off their position, and the worker who is a good, active listener is valued.
Since speaking to officials is something like giving a mini-speech, look at our lesson on Overcoming the Fear of Speaking to a Group, as well as the Reader Feedback.

I hesitate when I speak to girls
Question
August 8, 2007
my main problem is when i will speak to girls while i will be hesitate. so i would like to know how will survive this problem.....
Sudheer - India

Answer
It is not unusual for young man to hesitate or become anxious when speaking to girls, especially ones that you are interested in. The reason is usually because you fear being rejected by the girl, but also it has to do with not be familiar with talking with someone of the opposite sex.
A good way to build up your confidence is to practice speaking to girls and women that are not candidates for any relationship. The men who are most successful in dealing with women understand them and what they are interested in. They are able to talk with all women, including those of interest.
Another thing to realize is that's you may start talking to a girl with whom you are interested, but she is not interested in you or is unavailable because she has a boyfriend. In such a case, you need a way to have a gracious exit. You might simply say, "Well, it was nice talking to you." And then you move on.
Remember that it is better to try and fail them not to have tried at all.
I have difficulty speaking to people
Question
May 5, 2007
i can write something, but is a quite difficult in speaking, what can i do more nice speaking.
sangroula - Nepal

Answer
Every day practice reading aloud some material that you have written. This is very good practice to help your speaking ability. Note that all and the right team must be meant to be spoken aloud as opposed to being read.
If you live in Kathmandu, you might check into the Toastmasters Clubs there. See: http://www.toastmasters.org/find/default.asp?Country=Nepal
They can help you improve your speaking skills.
Another thing to do, is to improve your ability to ask questions about the other person. This makes it much easier to engage in a conversation.
I hope these ideas help.
Responsibilities in a relationship
Question
February 28, 2007
what are the responsibilities of a man and a woman in a relationship? and describe
- USA
13272
Answer
A relationship requires two-way communication. That means both parties need to listen to the other person.
One problem that may occur is that men and women think and communicate differently. For example, men usually think logically and tried to solve problems, while women think more emotionally and are concerned about relationships. Of course, there are many exceptions to such classifications.
Both the man and the woman need to listen to the other's needs and to show consideration in the relationship.
Engineer wants to communicate better
Question
July 15, 2004
I am an Indian ,also i am engineer in electronics and communication. One of my weakness is poor communication.i hopeyou can help me to improve this
thanking you
yours faithfully
Mohammed - INDIA

Answer
The first part of communication is carefully watching and listening to find out what the other person wants to know. Technical people often have problems expressing information to the non-technical. It is an art to take a technical project and simplify it so others can understand. In fact, it often takes so much work that the typical engineer will give up.
This problem can be worse if there is a difference in language or dialect. One solution is written communication, provided it is done carefully and not in haste.
