Evaluate your activities to see if you have been doing anything different or extra compared to when you received good grades. Often a student will become involved in activities that take away from schoolwork.
But also, school gets more difficult as you move to higher levels. You need to have good study habits to make sure you keep up and excel. It takes more discipline in taking notes and in preparing for tests.
See our lessons on Getting Good Grades at:

Best wishes in gaining your power again.
Strategies for teaching students at different skill levels
Question

I'm doing a project about "how does the age or ability of the student influence the selection of a teaching strategy?"
if you are responsible to teach the same content to 3 different classes ranging from remedial to accelerate. How would your teaching methods differ?
please i would like some information about this subject, looking forward for your reply.

It is very difficult for a teacher to adapt to having one or two students in a class who are at a different level than the others. But if there are separate classes with all students at the same level, then different strategies can be used.
For a class of students who are younger or not as skilled, the teacher should emphasize communication and guidance to make sure the students understand the material. Activities need to be planned to get the students involved, as well as to monitor their progress.
If the class consists of superior students, the teacher can accelerate the pace, allow for less oversight and suggest extra projects to stimulate the minds of the students, as well as not to let them get bored.
A standard level class would be an average of the two strategies, perhaps what is the school standard.
In all situations, interaction and student participation should be encouraged. A teacher who only lectures does not hold interest, no matter what the level.
How can you teach students who don't understand?

Teacher should never assume that their students had learned certain material in previous classes. It is always good to start teaching a class with an overview of the basics, as well as definitions of terms you will use. In this way, everyone is starting at the same point, and you can also tell which students may have trouble understanding things.
It is good to encourage students to take notes in class. This not only helps them remember, but they can also note which things they do not understand that need further study. Encourage feedback and allow students that don't understand to get another explanation. Of course, there are students who do not have the capabilities and two may slow down the class. They may need special attention outside of class, perhaps teaming with another student who can help to explain things.
I hope these ideas help. Best wishes in teaching her students.

Answer
Most good schools have a purpose or mission statement similar to: "Our mission is to provide education to our students, so that they will be able to become valuable members of society and good citizens."
As a teacher, you want your students to learn and understand the subject matters that you are teaching. Your goal is that most of them will get top grades. It is worthwhile to also teach the students good study habits in order to assure they get good grades.
Some students do not learn as fast as others. Some students may also need extra motivation to do their best. We try to tell the students to seek to become champions in school.
If your students all do well and learn what they should, you have done a good job. Do not give up on the slow students. Sometimes with some inspiration, a student that does not seem so smart can sparkle and be a leader.
Best wishes in becoming a champion teacher. It is gratifying to help the students learn.
Interested in teaching virtues and morals
Question

I am interested in teaching lessons from my home on virtues, morals, etiquette, etc, for children. Do you have any suggestions. Thank you!

Answer
Such lessons would be of interest to parents, especially for preschool children. Once children are in school, it is difficult to have them go to additional classes unless they are on weekends or through a church Sunday School. But even then, parents may be interested.
You can look through the material in our Character section for ideas: http://www.school-for-champions.com/character.htm
We will be publishing a book on The Power of Positive Character in about a month.
You can also see the Character Counts website at: http://charactercounts.org/ They sell some material on teaching character in schools. Also see: http://www.goodcharacter.com/
Just as some people put around ads that they tutor in math or other subject, you can also advertise that you tutor in character and moral issues.
I hope this gives you some ideas. Best wishes in your efforts, and let us know how things turn out. This follows our philosophy of championing a worthy cause and doing good in this world.
Always forget what I just read
Question
January 8, 2008
GOOD DAY,
PLEASE I NEED A LITTLE HELP IN TERMS OF MY LIFE FOR EXAMPLE I ALWAYS READ BUT ANYTIME I READ I ALWAYS USE TO FORGET WHAT I READ. PLEASE RENDER ME AN ASSISTANCE OR SOME WORD OR THINGS TO DO.
JESSE - Nigeria

Answer
After you read something, it is good to act on it, so that it will become ingrained in your memory. One thing you can do is to write down some notes about what you read. That can help to remember the material.
Another thing you can do is to think to yourself, "How can I use or apply that information?" If you see a use for it, you should remember it.
Some people like to tell others about what they read. Expressing what you read can reinforce your memory. Just planning to tell someone can also help you remember what you read.
I hope these ideas help you gain a better memory on your reading.
Other children act poorly toward my son
Question
November 22, 2007
How will i let my child to have more patience and understanding to those who are not behaving good to him? Especially his adviser who has a short understanding of his case? And he is also a product of a broken marriage at the same time? I'm really disappointed to his adviser for being considerate when in fact she should not be like that?
Linda - Philippines

Answer
It is unfortunate that some advisers or counselors of children are not very understanding. Often, it is almost better not to depend on advisers to do much help.
Sometimes children are bullied or ridiculed by other children. It would be good for you to find out how the other children are acting toward your son, in order to get a better understanding of the problem.
You can tell your son that the reason others treat him poorly is because they don't feel good about themselves and want to build themselves up by picking on others. But also, your son needs to learn to defend himself. Having patience and understanding may be a sign of weakness to others and result in even more problems.
It would be good if your ex-husband was aware of the problems your son is having. Often a masculine influence can help. But often it is not possible in a broken marriage.
One thing to do is to find something that your son is good at and encourage him to pursue it. This will help him build his self-esteem and confidence. When he feels good about himself, he will walk taller, which will affect how others act toward him.
Above all, give him plenty of love.
I hope these ideas help in getting others to act better toward your son.

Answer
Idealism is based on the view that reality is a world within a person's mind. Schools exist to sharpen the mind and intellectual processes.
Realism is based on the view that reality is what we observe. Students are taught factual information.
Most schools use a mixture of these theories.
