Question

based on the philosophy of education of one Eastern country, what do you consider could be the indicators for the successful implementation of the programs, policies vital to the country's development?
che - Philippines
17497
Answer
I am not sure which Eastern country you are referring to or what their philosophy is.
If most of the people in that country were taught with a particular philosophy of education, their method of think and logical approach would be influenced by that philosophy. For example, government officials educated with a philosophy based on strict adherence to religious laws may not be flexible to respond to an economic crisis. On the other hand, they may respond well to social unrest.

Purpose of schools and established values
Question
October 27, 2007
some educational philosophers think school should instruct students in the established values of the society .other think schools should teach students to questions established values. why and how?
- USA
14656
Answer
Educational philosophers differ on the purpose of education, often according to their political and religious beliefs. Besides teaching students academic subjects, some philosophers believe that the students should be taught values and morals so that they fit in a specific society. Countries that emphasize social harmony or following a specific religion adhere to this purpose of education.
On the other hand, societies that value individuals may allow them to follow their own beliefs.
Educational philosophers that feel students should question established values are often advocating turmoil in society. They often are from the revolutionary times of the 1960s and 1970s, where students were taught to question authority and not trust anyone over 30. Note that a student that questions established values should also question the validity of teachers such as these educational philosophers.

2. Does Philosophical stances of education differ to theories of education?

Answer
A theory is one or more rules that are suggested to apply to a field. The remains a theory until it is proven true. For example, there might be a theory of education that children learn best if given rewards. By testing the theory, it be decided whether it is valid. At that time the theory can become a principle of education.
One the other hand, a philosophy is a belief system. The philosophy of education is the study of the purpose, process, nature and ideals of education. One philosophy or belief system of education is that children want to learn and simply must be guided.

Personal philosophy about education
Question
June 23, 2005
I trying to come up with my own personal philosophy about education and I favor realism and existentialism what things do I need to include that would best describe my beliefs and values.
Dianell - USA

Answer
Although the listed theories are nice, they are also academic exercises that may not have much to do with real teaching.
To establish a good personal education philsophy, consider your personal goals in teaching. But also include the goals of the parents, students and even society. Note that educational philosophies usually do not address the goals of the students, and sometimes they don't even consider the wishes of the parents.
Then list your beliefs and values and see how they fit with respect to those goals. For example, if you believe in the value of your religion in education, but you are in an atheistic society, you educational philosophy may not go too far.
Needless to say, it is a good exercise to see how your ideals fit within the educational framework in which you want to teach.
How to answer your philsophy of education
Question
October 1, 2004
How can I answer the question' What is Your Philosophy of Education'I as a Tanzanian teacher.
sia - TANZANIA
4468
Answer
You can answer this as a complex theory, but it is better to look at the way you believe is the best to teach the students, such that they will learn the subject. Some teachers believe that memorization is the way to learn, while others rather have discussions and allow the students to find their own solutions. The best is usually a combination.
We feel it is good to remind the students of the basics each year and to encourage curiosity and observation to motivate the students to want to learn. Students that want to learn require much less discipline.
I hope that gives you an idea of how to answer the question.
