I am in 7th grade school starts tomarow and i have a teacher that people says she "teaches badly" if they're right about that how can i do good in the class?
- USA

Answer
Some teachers are not as good in communicating with their students or in explaining things as other teachers may be. If you get such a teacher, you need to make more effort in trying to understand what is going on.
But note that some students may have trouble learning from a particular teacher, while others think the teacher did a good job. Take the opinion of other people about this teacher with a "grain of salt."
The best thing is to have a good attitude concerning this teacher right away and try to keep on her good side. You may find out that the teacher is not so bad, and it certainly doesn't hurt your grades if she likes you.
Go in your class with an open mind and hope for the best. If other students receive good grades from her, you should be able to get good grades too.
Best wishes in your new class.

Hi
My name is Emma-Lee!

Answer
Although it is nice to get a reward like a puppy for getting good grades, it is better that you are motivated to do the best that you can.
A good way to start is to make a list of your subjects and write down the grade that you want in each one. Post that somewhere where you can see it, as a reminder of your goals.
Set a good schedule for doing your homework, and don't be afraid to ask for help you need it. Look through our lessons for tips on how to do better in school, including the Reader Feedback.
If you're able to get all A's in your classes, that would be wonderful. However, if you simply got A's and B's, you still would be doing very well, such that your mother should be proud of you.
Best wishes and getting top grades, and hopefully you will get your puppy.
I would love to get better grades in school
Question

hi I'm not really a bad student but I would love to get better grades this school year. I m 14 years old and I need to know how can I memorise faster and how to get good grades.

Answer
The fact that you want to get better grades is a great start. Write down the grades you would like on a piece of paper that you can look at occasionally, as a motivation.
It is good to take notes in class to help you remember things. Pay attention to what your teacher indicates as important items and write them down. The writing process helps to ingrain things in your memory. Also, mark thing sin your textbooks that you feel are important to remember. Reading your notes and those marked items out loud to yourself also can help in remembering them.
Look over our other lessons in getting good grades for other tips.
Best wishes on getting top grades. I know you can do it.

message- hi my name is jishnu nair i am in class 9th.can you tell me the methods to bring good marks in maths, scienceand in social studies.

Answer
Write down the grades you would like to get in those classes, and keep that note as a goal for you to achieve. That will remind you of what you want.
Going though our lessons on getting good grades will give you many ideas. Also read the feedback from other students.
Mathematics requires practice in solving problems. Then during the tests, you will recognize solutions you have done before. You need to understand the basic concepts of science> It is a very logical subject. Social studies requires seeing many examples of society in action.
Pay close attention to what your teacher says, because you may get hints about what will be on the tests.
Best wishes in getting good grades. I am sure you will do a great job.
Want to get A's without putting much effort
Question

i want to get A's without putting much efforts....and i take a long time to read each page,,..help me
amani - Sri Lanka

Answer
You need to learn to read quickly. That takes practice, but it can help in school.
If you can quickly understand and remember what you hear from the teacher and read, it is easier to learn.
You must be efficient in doing your homework, so that it is not a chore.
However, if you are simply lazy and do not want to work hard, you had been be a genius if you hope to get top grades.
Worried about not passing

I've been having a really bad time getting good grades. there's only 1 week left of school, and i need to have a good grade, since i might have a chance to not pass my grade.
but to tell you the truth i have been working my butt of for the last 2 terms...
and i really wish that i could pass..
is there anyways that i could pass this year????
but my mom have been giving me real stress and i've been going crazy...
she wont trust me that i will pass..
PLEASE HELP ME!!1

Answer
Certainly, you should not have waited until just before school is over before you started to get concerned about not passing.
The best thing that I could suggest would be to tell your teacher that you are concerned about passing the class. Then ask for some suggestions on the important things to study or on ways that would help you pass.
Hopefully, the teacher will cooperate and give you some advice or help. It certainly is worth a try at this time in this school year.
Meanwhile, continue studying and trying to learn the important material that probably will be on the test.
Best wishes, and I hope you do well in your exams and will pass your grade.
I only study at exam time
Question
May 31, 2010
i am doing well but my family thinks that i am only enjoying i come first but they tell what is the use when you study only exam time what you read you will in exam and come but nothing goes in your head they say study like this that when you grow up it helps you so they are not so much satisfied with my studies i am going to not so high school there are some students who are very naughty tyey think even i will become like them
aseema - India

Answer
Is always good to be with the better students, because the poor students or naughty ones can only bring you down.
Some students can get good grades by only studying just before the exam. However, that method may not work with more difficult courses. Also, it can be a waste, since little is remembered after the test.
It would be good to add punctuation in what you write, such as commas and periods. Otherwise, it is very difficult to understand what you have written. Teachers will usually give material without punctuation a low grade.
Too much work hurting student's grades
Question
May 24, 2010
I realize that most kids do not do well in school becaue they do not put in the effot. To me, i think putting effort in school is the key to success and recieving better marks. I am in grade 8, and i play many, many sports. I am a person who puts amountless hours and time in my projects, and i hope to do well. My overall average, first semester, was 86.8%, my second was 85.4% and my third wad 83.3%. i am aware of this downhill pattern, and i am pleading to rise my average. Just last week, i recieved a 54% on a math test, and i studied for hours!I noticed that it was a horrible mark, and i asked for extra work. I have not been recieving as good of marks as i hope, so i have to do extra work! I have been getting low to mid 80's, but never any 90's! My mom is recently suffering from depression, and i have been trying to help her out. I spend around 5 hours on two projects, and they looked professionaly done, with loads of information, but i only recieved around a mid 80, and my goal is to get at least 90 above. For me, this should be a hard goal to reach! I am questioning if my problem is that im overworking myself, if it is a problem at my household, or both? Do you know any soltions to my problem? or do you reccomend any thing that i can do to recieve 90's again? If their is any questions or comments, please feel free to speak freely.

Answer
Although working hard is very important in getting good grades, it is more important to be working efficiently and effectively. That is working smarter instead of working harder.
Sometimes you can do what you think is a great job on an assignment, but it wasn't what the teacher really wanted to see. Often teachers give clues to what they want in homework and also give clues to what probably will be in tests or exams. You need to listen and observe the teacher to make sure you understand what is expected.
Getting a 54% in the math test is discouraging. Ask yourself why you did so poorly. Was it because you forget what you had studied? Was it a lack of understanding? Or did you study the wrong material? It is good to know in order to rectify the problem.
Also, it is not a bad idea to talk with your teachers. Tell them you want to get better grades and ask for suggestions of how you can improve. They may be able to give you some pointers that can help you out.
Considering you are involved in several sports at school, plus you are trying to help out your mother, and then you are working so hard on your homework, you may be getting over-extended and saturated with too many things on your mind and too many activities for the time available.
Improving your efficiency in doing your homework and managing your time can help. But you might have to back off on some of your extra-curricular activities until you get a better handle on things.
I can see you have the potential and drive to be excellent. Try to balance things out and work smarter. I am sure you will be able to get top grades.
Best wishes on being the champion you can be.
