I think my teacher hates me

Question

November 13, 2009

I think my teacher hates me. He says I puts no effort in any work he gives me but what the heck?! I spend 4 hours doing my homework everyday and I always try my best no matter what. He's just picking on me. I missed homework 3 times...and he shouts at me like everyday without having any particular reason. It's so unfair. Today, he says he's sending a warning letter to my parents because I missed my IT homework. But hello?! The whole darn class missed it. He also says I might be failing this year. WTH?! What should I do?
Thanks if you're going to reply!

- China

Answer

Sometimes a teacher can dislike a student, while other times the teacher has an impression that the student is lazy or a troublemaker. Then other teachers try to push their students too hard. But note that teachers do not want their students to fail, because it does not look good on the teacher's record.

It is apparent that your teacher does not realize you are trying your best. However, note that missing your homework does not give a good impression, especially missing it three times.

Although it is not easy to do, it would be worthwhile to talk to your teacher and ask for suggestions how you can get better grades in class. Don't argue with what he says, but show you are willing to improve. This will give him a better opinion of you. And some of the suggestions may actually help you do better.

Also, have a better attitude toward you teacher. Never, ever say bad things about him to your friends. That can get back to him. Before each class, picture him as being glad to see you in class. That visualization will affect your own body language, which creates a subtle impression on him.

Look at the letter from another student who has been having similar problems with his teacher:

He tried the suggestions, and they worked for him.

I hope these ideas help, and best wishes in getting top grades in your class.

How to survive college life?

Question

November 12, 2009

How to survive college life? what are the steps for college survival?

- Philippines

18655

Answer

College life can be challenging, but it also can be one of the best times in your life.

College is like a local soccer player joining a top professional soccer team. It is the "big leagues".

You need to select a field of study that is interesting to you and something that you enjoy learning about. Enthusiasm fro gaining knowledge makes the work much easier. Ideally, the field of study is one where there is a good paying job available after graduation. That future gives you motivation.

You need to be able to manage your time effectively, such that you are able to do all the required work. You cannot spend more time than needed on one subject at the expense of the others.

Taking notes in class is a good way to document the important items and is handy as a study tool.

Do not look at the need to simply survive college. Instead look forward to it and try to optimize your learning and experiences.

Best wishes for top grades in school.

Can I take classes in community college when in high school?

Question

November 10, 2009

I am a high school student and i was wondering if it is possible for me to take a community college course to get me in a university in the future

Liz - USA

18648

Answer

The most important thing is to get good grades in your high school classes. Some students have taken classes in their local community college, but it is usually during summer. Otherwise it can interfere with their present school work.

During your senior year in school, start checking into universities and colleges where you would like to attend. Some even start in their junior year.

Considerations are distance from home, cost, and requirements.

Some students will go to a local college for the first year or two and then transfer over to a major university, so that they can graduate from that school. A surprising number of students who are able to start in a university, often transfer out to go to their local college.

Best wishes in getting ready for college days.

Have troubles with teacher

Question

November 1, 2009

hi I have some troubles with one teacher I try to respect her and I'm nice to her but she always gets on me for the littlests thing such as coughing during a test and I have this thing every Thursday called gifted and talented and so I miss work and she never tells me what I missed even if I ask her and so I miss some assignments and I know 2 assignments that I did and turned into her and she gave me 0 credit evn though I did it and should have gotten 100% so I'm wondering does she get on me because she doesn't like me and also how do I know what to do for homework if she never tells me

Sam - USA

18608

Answer

Sometimes teacher get on certain students for what seems as no reason at all. It almost seems like the teacher doesn't like the student.

On the other hand, some teachers try to use "tough love" on students they feel have potential but are not working up to their ability. In other words, they get on a student's case to try to motivate him to do better.

Whatever the situation, your teacher is not handling things very well, and it sounds like she is making things unpleasant for you.

If she resents the fact that you go to "gifted and talented" sessions, such that she won't tell you what you missed, you should try to get some friends in class to bring you up to date. Also, perhaps try asking her what will be covered in the class before you go to the "gifted and talented" session.

An important thing is to make sure you do not say negative things about her to other students, because that can get back to her and shape her attitude about you. Always have positive things to say about her to your friends, or keep your mouth shut.

Another thing to try is to visualize her as happy to see you and friendly toward you, before each class. What this does is to subtly affect your own body language, which she can sense. On the other hand, if you are uptight before class, she can read that body language too.

Finally, you just want to get through this class with a decent grade. Keep a low profile and hope to come out with the grade you want.

Best wishes in a difficult situation. Let me know how things turn out.

Wants to become president of Somalia

Question

October 24, 2009

hi my name is abdi wahab i'm from somalia, and i grow up in somalia now i live in mn united state. i have a big dream to be good in school I gratueted in roosevelt high school in south minneapolis.i8 came to america in 2005 jan.my dream is to became the presdent of somalia.we din't have no governmet for 18 years.so i want to became a leader that can make some change.i'm only 20 years old but have a big dream.to make the long hitorry shor,my queation is,how can i be good in my colege that i'm going to start in 2010. thank you

abdi wahab - USA

18568

Answer

You have a very good dream. In order for you to become president of Somalia, you need to keep in touch with people in your country. Try to find some students or own your own age in Somalia to communicate with and befriend. You also want to find others from Somalia who live in the United States. You can tell them of your dream of someday going back to Somalia and becoming the country's president.

Note that this is not a unique idea. Looking at history, you can find a number of people who have left their home country only to come back and become president or leader.

Meanwhile, you want to be able to do well in school so that you can graduate from college with a good education. Establish some good study habits so that you can work efficiently on your school assignments. When you write any school reports, documents or letters, be sure to use a spellchecker and check your punctuation and grammar. What you write and what you say are how you present yourself to others. That is important for a future president.

Work hard and keep your dream alive. And I am sure you will be a success.

Principal saidt she will terminate me

Question

August 26, 2009

I move to anew school...the principal told me that she will terminate me if i wasn't good at english and the other subjects...What should I do...I am stressed out?

Susan - UAE

18213

Answer

That isn't a good introduction to the school to have the principal tell you that. It probably is a warning to make sure you are serious about your studies.

Show your teachers that you are trying to do your best. If you can pick your seat, it is always good to sit closer to the front. It makes a good impression on the teachers.

Try not to be stressed out. When you get to know the other students, you can find out how things are really done in the school.

Best wishes on adjusting to your new environment and in getting good grades. I am sure you will be able to do well.

How to write aparagraph?

sokuru - UAE

Answer

A paragraph is at least two or three sentences on a single thought. Some paragraphs are many sentences long. Look at any of your books to see how they have several sentences in a paragraph and then a break to the next paragraph and slightly different thought. This email is an example of one paragraph.

So-called friends start rumors if I don't hang out with them

Question

August 16, 2009

well i go to school with alot of friends that are glamorous and popular. but the thing is they tend to make me feel sorry for them and hang out with them during school work and if i don't they get mad at me and tend to make rumors about me so i don't really know if i should keep up with them and protect myself from being embaressed or just don't care and focus on school or do both?

i wounder if i could get good grades and after high school i could go to the marines or go to college and become a doctor or go to college and then go to the marines?

missymiss - Palau

18156

Answer

It sounds like you have some good dreams and plans for what you want to do after high school. In such a case, it is important to pick friends that also have plans and dreams, and who will enhance your reputation.

Hanging out with kids who aren't interested in school and who will say things about you behind your back will only bring you done and destroy your dreams. They have little future, and they want to drag others along with them.

Breaking away from these so-called friends may be a little difficult at first, but it will be worthwhile. Who wants to worry about having someone talk about you, as well as someone who will affect your grades and your future?

You want to start getting busy with other activities, so you can simply tell them you are too busy to hang out. Also look for some top students to befriend.

I hope this helps you. Best wishes on becoming both a doctor and a Marine. They need good doctors in the Marines.

Is the book "Tricks for Good Grades" worth it?

Question

August 3, 2009

Do you think that buying the book "Tricks for good grades" is worth it?

Arno - USA

18099

Answer

You can get most of the information in the book from our lessons at:
http://www.school-for-champions.com/grades.htm

What is nice about the book is that it is more comfortable to read from a book instead of jumping around in web pages. You can also take it with you.

Look at some of the pages in our Good Grades section to decide whether the material is of interest and whether you would like to keep it in a book form.

In either situation, I think the material can help you get better grades or have a better perspective about school.

Best wishes for top grades.
