Answer
In security, access control means that you have ways to limit or control who enters a building or some location in a building.
Large buildings want their access control automated, such that locks are opened by a timer or a security guard. Even having to show a badge to enter a building is a form of access control.

Answer
As a traveler, it is always good to go to good places that is well-lit and where there are many people. Even in town, you want to avoid bad areas, especially at night.
In some bad places, someone might put something in a person's drink to make him pass out. That is why it is good to avoid such places.
Muggers look for people who look confused, lost, intoxicated, or disoriented. When in a strange place, be alert and walk confidently. Do not carry packages, where you can't use your arms to defend yourself.

Wants painful burglar alarm
Question
March 23, 2007
I am looking for a house alarm that emits a frequency not heard by people but is painful for them to stay in the area. This alarm would be for use when no one is home. I do not live around people and a regular sound alarm would not be helpful nor would one that alerts law enforcement as any intruder would be gone before anyone could get here.
karen - USA

Answer
Typically, alarms are very loud and high-pitched, such that they are irritating enough to cause the person to leave. I don't think there is anything available that is so high-pitched that no one can hear it, but it causes pain. One that make noise and is almost painful would do the trick.

Answer
With the need for security, there seems to be a shortage of schools teaching physical security, as opposed to computer security. My recommendation is to find companies providing access control and CCTV systems in the London area and ask them where you can get such training. Often companies have their own in-house training.
Best wishes in your career.
Email security
Question
September 3, 2003
what is Email security ? How to send and receive secure E-mail ? explian issues?
mathy -
401
Answer
Email security concerns keeping out email that may infect your computer with a program that will cause problems.
Most Internet providers have virus checkers that prevent infected email from entering your computer. In addition, many people use virus protection software such as Norton Anti-virus to provide extra protection.
The third line of defense is to NEVER open an email attachment that you did not request. Some email viruses will get your name from a friend's computer that is infected and send you the bad attachment as if it was from your friend. Opening bad attachments is how most people get their computers infected.
There is also the issue of secure email, which is encrypted to prevent anyone from seeing the contents. There is special software to purchase for that. But it is usually only used by companies with secret business.
