I see colors around people
Question
July 26, 2009
I see colors around people-and always assumed they were auras-but now I,ve read it could be synaesthesia-is that true-I have seen colors off of objects-but it always makes people uncomfortable-and I paint-so it is much easier to paint the colors you see-people often wear colors that they are surrounded by-

Answer
It really does sound like you are seeing the aura around people. But it could be synesthesia, like if the colors are associated with sounds the people make. Also, synesthesia can be related to many other things, like numbers or such.
Whatever the reason that you see the colors, you can use your creativity to paint the colors you see. That is more expressive.

Answer
It sounds like you have a number of senses that are extra-sensitive. You already know you are synesthesic. Having dreams to come true is being able to sense future events, which we call the sixth sense.
Animals have very sensitive senses, such that they can tell when there is a threat and when there isn't. They may be able to tell that your senses are more sensitive than others. But also your body language and odors indicate to them that you are not threatening and may even be a friend.
There are animal trainers such as the "horse whisperer" and "dog whisperer" who very effective with the animals, because they can sense that they are kind and not threatening. You seem to have the same abilities.
Associates human characteristics to numbers
Question
October 28, 2008
Hi, I am Danilo and I have one doubt. I can associate human characteristics to numbers, letters, days of the week, months of the year, etc. and I can also associate colors to them. For example, Saturday for me is female, responsable, sensable and colored orange. Monday is male, young and colored yellow. The letter U is male, pure, upright and yellow. And so on. My doubt is: Do I have synesthesia?

Answer
It sounds like you have synesthesia, but you also include some artistic metaphors where you put feelings and character into things like days of the week. It is sort of a mix of a sense and feelings.
My synesthesia associations seem less with age
Question
August 13, 2008
Since my childhood I've always associated colors with numbers, colors with peoples' names, names of places, days, months years, seasons. I hear or should I say "see" music when I see colours. Some colours when put together harmoniously actually sound like a symphony with rythym and percussion. When I want to remember something on a page, I recall the page in my head, and then re-read it. I don't just see the stars, I hear them with my eyes.
It's interesting that I don't associate colors with anything/anybody I've newly encountered in my adult life. Seems like it's only the things that I experienced/learned during my formative years.
I was very surprised to learn that other's aren't like me.

Answer
There seem to be numerous variations in synesthesia. It seems that as some people get older, the effect is somewhat diminished. But also, that seems to be part of how the memory works. You don't have to be ancient to notice your short-term memory is not as good as before and that past events are more vivid.
I would not be surprised if there were others with synesthesia that have experienced the same thing as you.
Synesthesia and visualizing the abstract
Question
June 28, 2008
I have always been able to see colours and moving patterns when hearing music that I like. In fact, the music that I Don't like, I will describe it as 'bland, colourless'... It is like music is three dimensional. I don't just hear it, I see it. By the way, I am left handed, not good with numbers, and can get lost easily. I am not good with abstract things unless I can visualize them to make sense of them; don't know if there is a link there or not? I am a middle age woman, but I wouldn't describe myself as high intelligence. I can 'get it' when I can visualize it. I wish I could show others what I can see when I hear music and share my colours and patterns.

Answer
Thanks for sharing your experiences with Synesthesia. It is interesting how the colours for music you don't like are bland. That goes into how emotions affect your colours.
People have different thinking patterns and ways they learn. Some learn better when they hear things, while others learn better what they can see or visualize. People who are visually oriented often speak in terms of vision, with such expressions as, "Do you see what I mean?" or "How does that look to you?"
The fact that you see colours and patterns when hearing music fits with having a visual way of interpreting things.
At the very least, enjoy your synesthesia. You are among the select few.
Wants to help people with his special gifts
Question
January 24, 2008
hello my name is Warren and i am fifteen years old. growing up i always felt different. but i never knew i had gifts. these started when i was eight i was sitting down watching television when all of a sudden i heard air blow into my ear and i high frequency. i saw my mom come in a like vision state and two seconds later she was their. i did not know what to think but wow. from then on i would sometimes not all the times get this gift. i could sometimes see who the person is who is coming other times i just hear the air and frequency and try to guess who is coming. also when i or people say really big words i think of colors. for example when i or someone else says eternal i think of green or Monday is a bright yellow and Tuesday is a dark blue. i can also see colors or aura's around people. sometimes i can control it other times it turns on by itself. but just by using this i can tell a lot about a person's personality. the last thing i get is when i eat somethings after i am done i will taste something else or feel a sensation in my body. sorry one more thing when i look at a person on a picture or anywhere sometimes i get smells from the picture and actually know what they smell like. so please help me in using these gifts to my life and to also help people which i always wanted to do like a hero thank you write back

Answer
Some get a feeling that something will happen in the future. You seem to hear some high frequency sound when your 6th sense kicks in.
Synesthesia is actually seeing a color when they see or hear some words. If you just think of a color, it may be some other association. Many people associate Monday with the color blue. But also having synesthesia is related to using your 6th sense.
Some people say they can tell the personality of another person by their aura.
The best thing to do is to keep a journal of the times you have experienced the 6th sense, synesthesia and auras. Write down what happened, how you felt at the time and what the circumstances were. This will allow you to be more sensitive to these senses and perhaps be able to control them better.
The biggest problem with using these gifts to help others is that it sometimes freaks people out. But police have used psychics on occasion to help solve crimes.
If you have occasion to help someone using your gifts, it is best to just say it was a lucky hunch, as opposed to say you can foresee the future.
Experiencing synesthesia after a concussion
Question
December 1, 2007
Hi there, I'm 18 years old and I've only been experiencing sound to colour synesthesia after a concussion....is it possible that it could be caused by head injury??
I've found that when I have a migraine the experience is far more intense
Emma-Jane - New Zealand

Answer
People who have had a concussion suffer from migraine afterwards. I hope you have seen a doctor after getting your concussion. Also, some people who get migraine headaches also experience synesthesia just as the headache starts or during the headache.
You may also had been prone to synesthesia and the head injury and migraines just increased the symptom.
I hope you have a good recovery from your concussion.

Assigned research paper on synesthesia
Question
February 21, 2007
My name is Keri Miller and I am currently in an art appreciation class. Our teacher has assigned a research paper for our sememster final. My topic is synesthesia. I would like to know can just anyone have this or does a person have to a chemical brain embalance? Anymore information on this topic would be appreciated also. Thank you for your time.

Answer
Synesthesia may be somewhat related to a chemical imbalanced, but it really is a situation where information from one sense leaks into another sense in the areas of the brain that process the information. It seems to mainly occur in people that have other brain abnormalities.
I'm not sure if overloading the senses of an average person would also result in a mild synesthesia. That would be an interesting experiment.
Are synesthesia, dyslexia and dyspraxia related
Question
January 27, 2007
My son announced to me recently that he can see colours when he hears certain music. He is colour blind, dyslexic and dyspraxic. Is there a link with any of these conditions? He has performed intelligence tests and scored over the 95th centile.I would be interested to know if there is a link. Many thanks.

Answer
Synesthesia, dyslexia and dyspraxia seem to be somewhat related in that there is a cross-activation of the senses. Although dyslexia is supposed to be a learning disability, in reality all three are often associated with high intelligence.
Your son has great potential, but he also has some big challenges to handle these conditions. I am sure he will prevail.
