Question

Hi Ron,

I just found your website! In particular, I enjoyed browsing through your Entrepreneurship resources.

It's great that there is also some information about starting an online store. Do you think it would be helpful to also include other ecommerce providers than just Shopify? We have a ranking table of various providers on our site. If you believe that this could be useful to your readers feel free to add it to the list.

Best of luck with your project!

Kind regards,

Robert - USA (27881)

Answer

Thanks for the suggested resource. I added it to Entrepreneurship Resources and ECommerce Resources.

Best wishes for success in your endeavors.

Small Business Resource Center

Question

Hi Ron,

I hope it's ok that I'm contacting you about this! I'm working on putting together a program for high school students who are interested in entrepreneurship, branding, marketing, etc. which is actually how I just found the Entrepreneur Resources page on the School for Champions site.

After looking through your information (which was very helpful), I wanted to send a resource that I thought was pretty good...you can see it here: Small Business Resource Center (http://99designs.com/resource-center). I thought it would make a good addition to the other resources on your page for any of your site visitors looking for this kind of info.

Anyway, I'd like to hear what you think and if you are able to add it to your site that would be very cool, please let me know! Just looking to contribute if possible and I'd love to show the kids :)

Thanks again!
Emily

Factors in Deciding to Start Your Own Business

Factors in finding demand for a business

October 25, 2014

Question

what are the factors that decide the demand of a business? for example lets say wedding planner. considering the needs of goods and service and the price of goods and services

tatenda - UK (25477)

Answer

Being a wedding planner is essentially going into business for yourself. The first thing to do is to check the competition to see how many are in your area. This gives an idea of the demand for the service.

Also, you can get some estimates on what they would change for setting up a wedding.

In starting up a business, it is always a good idea to get some hands-on experience. You can ask if they need some temporary help. Of course, if you tell that you want to start a competing business, they may not cooperate.

Being able to add something special or unique to an event can make it more appealing than the ordinary businesses.

I hope these ideas help. Best wishes for success in starting up your business.

Small business planning guide

May 27, 2014

Question

Hello,

My name is Angela. I am currently working in after school program that helps mentor young entrepreneurs. The ones in my group are putting together a presentation and have been doing research for different references to include. We came across your page and found it to be a big help, thank you so much!

They also found this great small business planning guide on (http://ecommerce.shopify.com/guides/businessplan) that has been really helpful to them as well and we wanted to share it with you.

Would you mind adding a link to it?

I think it would fit great with your other resources and I'd love to show the group that they helped contribute to another site with their findings!

Please keep me posted if you decide to add it!

Thanks again and best wishes!

Angela - USA (24995)

Answer

Thanks for the suggested resource. I added the link at Entrepreneur Resources.

Also, I plan to add a material on creating business plans in this section.

Best wishes for success in your program.

Factors in Deciding to Start Your Own Business

Factors in starting a business

September 6, 2013

Question

Can you please list for me some factors that can make a person start his/her business

Londiwe - USA (23995)

Answer

First of all, you need to have a good idea of a product or service that people would want to purchase. Ideally, it should be something you feel strong about.

If you feel that people wold really want your product and see the potential of your business, it should get you motivated to start your business.

You need to find out how to reach people that would be interested in your product. Where do they go to buy things? What do they read? How can you let them know?

Then, you need to figure out how much money you need to get started. How much does it cost to start making or getting your products?

Often people start off on a very small scale, just to test how much people actually want their product.

Then you can get started.

Question

my son is 23 and will like to start his new business

marisol - USA (23000)

Answer

It is important that your son has a good idea for a business that will provide something that people or companies want to buy. It is best to be enthusiastic about the product than to want to start a business simply to make money.

Often people who have a business sense will buy a franchise business to run.

Every business needs some initial funding to get it off the ground. Your some will also need to be able to perform most tasks himself to get the business off the ground.

Have him look over our lessons to give him a start in formulating ideas about starting his business.

Want to plan for a long-term business

October 16, 2012

Question

In Christ, My personal developments plan all about long term business.

Othello - Liberia (22985)

Answer

Although some people start a business with the short-term idea of selling it after it is established, it is better to think in terms of maintaining your business for the long term.

An important way to maintain a long-term business is to make sure you are satisfying your customers, such that they give you repeat business. See Total Quality Management for methods to do that.

Another concept in planning for a long-term business is to realize that products and tastes change, and you have to prepare to adapt to such changes to keep your customers happy. Changes in products come with technical advances. Even styles and even the types of foods people prefer change, so to be long-term, you need to be able to adapt.

I hope these ideas help. Best wishes for a successful and long-term business.

I want to start fish business

July 19, 2012

Question

I want to start fish business and i want it to develop to a coldroom, how can i go about it.

Bukky - Nigeria (22788)

Answer

It is good to study the various fish businesses in your area, as well as businesses with a coldroom. You can find out what they do, who they deal with, and other aspects of the business.

Often it is good to get a job with such a business, in order to study it closely.

If you need such things as a boat and equipment, you will need money to get started. Some people starting businesses will get a partner they trust who has common goals. This makes it easier to cover initial expenses.

Write up a plan of action of what you want to achieve and what you need for your business. Thorough planning is important in creating a successful business.

Best wishes for success in your endeavor.

Van Arsdell Business Approach

Want to start business selling Stirling engines

July 16, 2011

Question

I want to start my small business Stirling Engine fan

A bdul - Pakistan (21812)

Answer

Although the Stirling engine is quite unique, it is not efficient or powerful enough for practical uses. Thus, it is usually only sold to schools and hobbyists. If you want to start a business, you need to first define who your potential customers are and see what the demand for your product is.

If you can see many people who would want a Stirling engine, and you can get them at a good price, you might be able to start a business selling them.

Having a good demand for a product is important in starting a business.

Best wishes in your efforts.

Types of Entrepreneurial Enterprises

Planning to start a fast food restaurant

January 11, 2011

Question

suppose you are planning to start a fast food restaurant. Being an entrepreneur so what are the specific and realistic business objectives and marketing strategy and action programs

kamran - Pakistan (20998)

Answer

Location is a very important aspect of a successful fast food restaurant. You need to do some market research to find a place where people go from work for lunch, as well as to see what the competition is in the area. Studying the competition also allows you to determine what type of food to offer that is slightly different (and better) than the competition. It also lets you determine how much you can charge for the food.

This can give you an idea of how much business to expect and how much money you will need until you can earn a profit. It is good to see how long others have been in business and how long the restaurants that failed lasted.

It is usually best to start small and plan to grow as business increases through word-of-mouth and other advertising. Starting small reduces the amount of money needed to get the business off the ground.

If you have good food at a reasonable price and in a good location, your fast food restaurant should succeed. Best wishes on achieving your dream.
