Years Left to Live

About 1 min read

Although it is not pleasants to think about, as you get older you have fewer and fewer years left to live.

It is good to realize your time is winding down, to appreciate what you have now and what you’ve done in your life, and to make the most of your remaining years.

Questions you may have include:

  • What is the average life expectancy?
  • How many more years can you expect to live?
  • What should you do when time is short?

This lesson will answer those questions. Health Disclaimer

According to the Australian Department of Health the following statistics are given:

At birth

The average life expectancy from birth in Australia is about 81 years. This accounts for people dying when relatively young, which affects the overall average.

At 65

If you are about 65 years old, you can expect to live another 19 to 22 years on the average. That doesn’t seem too bad. (65 + 20 = 85)

At 75

If you are about 75 years old, you can expect to live another 10 to 12 years on the average. That still isn’t bad. (75 + 11 = 86)

At 85

If you are about 85 years old, you can expect to live another 6 to 7 years on the average. At age 85, you have lived a pretty long life, so you must be reasonably vital. Make the most of those years. (85 + 7 = 92)

At 95

If you are about 95 years old, you can expect to live another 3 years on the average. Hopefully, you will be healthy enough to appreciate your remaining years. (95 + 3 = 98)

Summary

It is good to realize your time is winding down, to appreciate what you have now and what you’ve done in your life, and to make the most of your remaining years.
