Overview of eBusiness

eBusiness (or e-business) is an electronic subset of standard business practices. Applications e-business include using both the Internet company Intranet for internal business operations, as well as enterprise communication and collaboration. Also, a major application is using the Internet for e-commerce. Many companies are increasingly moving over to e-business techniques.

Business operations

Internal business operations be done using the Internet or company intranet. An intranet is a private computer network—similar to the Internet—used to securely share an organization’s information with its employees.

Business operation areas such as human resources, enterprise resource planning, document management and customer relationship management (CRM) can be effectively performed by electronic means.

Communication and collaboration

Communication through the Internet or company intranet is fairly common in most businesses. This includes e-mail, voicemail and even VoIP, which is voice communication over the Internet.

Web conferencing, content management (CMS) and business process management combine communication and collaboration by electronic means.

eCommerce

The e-commerce portion of e-business can involve selling directly to customers over the Internet or the company website, as well as business-to-business electronic commerce (B2B).

Supply chain management (SCM) and online marketing are included as parts of the e-commerce process.
