Diseases of the brain

There are diseases and ailments that result in disruption in the function of the brain and thus mental illness.

Alzheimer’s disease is the most commonly known disease that causes wasting away of the person’s memory and ability to recognize things. It also results in not even being able to control normal activities.

Parkinson’s disease slows down a person’s physical functioning.

Injury to the brain

Some people have received a blow to the head that have caused amnesia. Others have had complete changes in their personalities.

Chemical imbalance

Often chemical imbalances are inherited and mental illness appears at a young age. In some cases, medication can improve the state, such that the person can live a relatively normal life without signs of mental illness.
