Achieving Vitality
by Ron Kurtus (updated 17 November 2022)
Vitality is when you are full of life and energy, with physical, mental and emotional vigor.
You attain this state of being by first becoming healthy or free from disease, then exercise to increase your capabilities, and finally get the nutrition needed to maintain a higher level of energy.
Questions you may have include:
- How do you become healthy?
- What exercises needed??
- What nutritionists are needed?
This lesson will answer those questions.
Become healthy
Health is basically defined as freedom from disease or injury. You need to be physically, mentally, and emotionally healthy.
Physical health
Taking care of your health is the best way to be physically healthy. That includes leading a healthy lifestyle and avoiding toxic foods. You need to do moderate exercise.
Mental health
Considering mental health as the health of your brain, you need to maintain your physical health.
Often mental health is defined as concerning attitudes and psychological situations. That area is considered part of emotional health.
Emotional health
Being emotionally unhealthy often means that you are experiencing an excess of negative emotions, such as fear and anger or sadness. Some may be caused by chemical imbalances related to your physical health. Others are related to excessive negative or toxic thoughts that create these emotions.
Note that emotional health problems, such as tension caused by continual stress, can affect your physical health.
Conditioning exercises
Vitality comes from exercising your body and mind to get them in good condition for performance.
Physical exercises
Exercising beyond your normal everyday activity will help you build physical strength and stamina, so that you have more energy and performing your various tasks. These exercises should work your cardiovascular system, such that the flow of blood and oxygen to your muscles, as well as to your brain, is highly efficient.
Mental exercises
As a result of your physical conditioning, your brain should be receiving more oxygen so that it can function better. But also, your brain must be used in exercise just as you would exercise a muscle in your body. You need to perform mental tasks beyond what you normally do. This could be anything from reading thought-provoking books to practicing with puzzles.
Emotional exercises
It is uncertain whether using or exercising your various emotions will make you more emotionally fit. Perhaps being more aware of them will help you.
Conditioning nutrition
When you exercise, you need to make sure you feed yourself the proper nutrition for growth and extra vitality.
For body and brain
A good healthy diet that relates to the amount of physical activity you have will help you maintain your conditioning. It is advisable to avoid such things as smoking and alcohol, which can tear down your body. A good diet will assure the muscles in your body, as well as your brain, will not only function well but will also grow.
For emotions
Input from other people, as well as your own thoughts, provide your emotional nutrition. You want that input to be positive and up-building as opposed to be negative and toxic.
Summary
You can achieve physical, mental and emotional vigor and vitality by first becoming healthy or free from disease. Then you need to exercise to increase your capabilities. Finally, you should take in the nutrition needed to maintain a higher level of energy.
